Estates and special collections
Archive of the Foundation E. G. Bührle Collection
The archive of the Foundation E. G. Bührle Collection consists of index cards, inventory books, correspondence, invoices and other documents on the Emil Bührle Collection, which was put together between 1936 and 1956. Until 1948, the members of the collector’s family maintained a card index containing details of the works acquired. From 1948 until his death in 1956, Emil Bührle employed a private secretary who compiled an inventory of the collection and created an archive to administer it. The archive of the Foundation E. G. Bührle Collection has been collated and analyzed by Lukas Gloor, the Foundation’s curator from 2002 until the end of 2021. It has been digitized and is available for public consultation in the reading room of the library at the Kunsthaus Zürich.
Suzanne Perrottet Collection
Photographs, documents and letters from the life of the dancer Suzanne Perrottet (1889–1983). The collection includes numerous notes in text and sketch form on dances and choreographies, as well as published texts and manuscripts. Perrottet’s relationship with the school of Rudolf von Laban can also be traced on the basis of the documents. Please note that parts of this collection (original drawings) have been transferred to the Collection of Prints and Drawings.
Fritz and Lucie Glarner Papers
The collection contains written documents and photographs. The written part consists mainly of correspondence from the 1940s to the 1970s and concerns both Glarner’s professional work and the private life of Fritz and Lucie Glarner. The senders and recipients of the correspondence include artists, architects, museums, galleries and publishers. There are also press clippings, notebooks, calendars, address and telephone cards, manuscripts and identity documents. The photographs likewise relate to both the Glarners’ private life and Fritz Glarner’s artistic work. They are available in the form of prints, negatives and Kodachrome slides.
Documents of the David M. Koetser Gallery
The items of this collection were located in the Zurich branch of the gallery when it was taken over by David Henry Koetser. It contains photographs of artworks (ca. 1967–1986) with which the gallery was involved, as well as a smaller number of files and correspondence dating back to the New York branch, including correspondence with various museums and art experts and a collection of press clippings.
Carlo von Castelberg papers
Carlo von Castelberg (1923–2006) was President of the Zürcher Kunstgesellschaft from 1975 to 1987. The archive holdings primarily comprise correspondence from this context.
