Marvel, experience, discover! Since 2025, Kunsthaus Zürich has been transforming its public spaces with the “Art for All” series into spectacular stages, showcasing monumental sculptures and immersive installations by leading contemporary artists. Getting things off to a flying start in 2025 was a breathtaking sculpture by the renowned artist Monster Chetwynd in the garden of art, while the Haefner entrance hall came alive with a striking installation by Jeffrey Gibson.

These extraordinary projects are made possible through private donations. You can be part of it, too – your support for the Gateway Fund helps bring unforgettable, free art experiences to Zurich. Thank you for making art accessible to all!

Architect Sir David Chipperfield designed both the monumental entrance hall and the garden of art as inviting public spaces where everyone can encounter outstanding art. Artists from around the world are invited to take up temporary residence at the Kunsthaus, presenting diverse cultural influences and perspectives through their work. These free exhibits are open to all, and are presented for a period of between six months and two years.

Ai Weiwei

Ai Weiwei (*1957, Beijing) is one of the most influential conceptual artists of our time. For more than four decades, his work has moved between sculpture, installation, architecture, film, and civic engagement.

For the Foyer Haefner at the Kunsthaus Zürich, Ai Weiwei has conceived a monumental, site-specific installation that unfolds across two levels of the building. Constructed from millions of building bricks, the work brings Monet's iconic Water Lilies from the Kunsthaus collection into dialogue with the history of war, raising urgent questions about the relationship between beauty and destruction, art history and political reality.

Installed from 2027 for approximately eighteen months in the Kunsthaus's central gathering space, the work enters into direct dialogue with the collection and the history of the institution.

By donating to the Gateway Fund, you play a vital role in bringing unique art installations to the city of Zurich and creating unforgettable experiences.
